As reported in CSM today, the latest DoD Unmanned Systems Roadmap was released.  As a primary contributor to the earliest roadmaps, I can tell you, this version is poised to make a big impact.  During the tenure of this version of the roadmap, we will find that the balance between manned and unmanned in various military functions/capabilities will tilt in favor of unmanned.  Soon, those who seek to maintain the manned dominance over unmanned will find themselves on the slippery slope.

NDAA Passed Last Night

As reported in DefenseNews, “In a vote that ended around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, the chamber voted 84-15 to pass the 2014 national defense authorization act (NDAA), which clears the Pentagon to spend $607 billion, including $527 billion in base funding and $80 billion for America’s global operations.”

The bill authorizes DoD to spend about $98B on procurement.

Job Description

  • 8 plus experience in information systems development, functional and data requirements analysis, systems analysis and design, programming, program design and documentation preparation
  • 5 plus years SAN Engineering (Brocade)
  • Possess strong background in EMC and Client SAN storage solutions
  • Have a basic knowledge of OS virtualization; to include VMware, Wintel and Linux administration Demonstrated experience in managing the implementation of information engineering projects and experience in systems analysis, design and programming using CASE and IE tools and methods
  • Proven managerial and supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communications skills, including giving formal presentations to different audiences
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently or under only general direction
  • Applies an enterprise-wide set of disciplines for the planning, analysis, design and construction of information systems on an enterprise-wide basis or across a major sector of the enterprise
  • Develops analytical and computational techniques and methodology for problem solutions
  • Performs enterprise-wide strategic systems planning, business information planning, business and analysis
  • Performs process and data modeling in support of the planning and analysis efforts using both manual and automated tools; such as Integrated Computer Aided Software Engineering (I-CASE) tools
  • Applies reverse engineering and re-engineering disciplines to develop migration strategic and planning documents
  • Provides technical guidance in software engineering techniques and automated support tools
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study
  • Active DOD Secret

Client has an immediate need for an experienced SAN Engineer who will be responsible for the design, implementation and optimization of systems and applications infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Storage and backup facilities
  • Virtualization technologies
  • Systems management
  • Storage capacity planning

The candidate will be involved in client infrastructure projects that will utilize virtualization services in the implementation of client systems into the datacenters.  Provide support and operate as a technical SAN expert on infrastructure projects pertaining to storage, virtualization, and systems management.  Perform storage implementations, performance analysis and optimization, storage systems monitoring, problem resolution, upgrade planning and execution, and process creation and documentation.  Assist Operations and Engineering with testing & implementation of new technologies and/or services including methods, policies and procedures for installation, management, monitoring and support
Ensure new storage technologies are adequately tested and integrated with Infrastructure and Application Services.  Optimize or re-design existing storage services as needed and work with tier 3 vendor technical subject matter experts as needed.  Provide input and suggest improvements based on current and new technology, best practices, and security requirements.  Responsible for the design, implementation and support of storage infrastructures.  Provides technical leadership for storage systems and is accountable to define, maintain, communicate, and implement standards consistent with established architecture and strategy.

Must be knowledgeable in Cisco, Brocade storage networking, implementation and switch configuration.

11th Hour NDAA?

According to Defense News, it is increasingly apparent that an 11th hour National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) may avoid DoD shutdown in a few weeks.
